Rambla is a range of small 7.5 x 30cm brick tiles from Grespania's ICON porcelain collection, made to look like hand-glazed tiles. The surface has a gentle ripple and the glossy glaze settles thick and thin across it, so each tile catches the light in its own way. Grespania produces 44 different faces, which keeps the wall from repeating, and sums the range up as shine and colour with an Art Deco soul.
There are three deep jewel colours. Zafiro is a sapphire blue that darkens almost to navy where the glaze pools, Esmeralda an emerald green, and Azabache a jet black with streaks of reflected light. All three are 7mm coloured-body porcelain with non-rectified edges, packed 55 tiles to a box covering 1.24m².
How do you lay Rambla? A classic brick bond suits a kitchen splashback, while stacking the tiles vertically in straight columns gives a taller, more Art Deco look. Grespania's own photo shows Esmeralda laid this way across the walls and columns of a restaurant bar. The shade variation is high, so mix tiles from several boxes as you go.
