A Shower That Changes the Whole Room: Wolverton Bathroom by Tabo

Some bathrooms don’t need a complete rethink… but this one did.

When we first saw this bathroom in Wolverton, Milton Keynes, it was still doing its job… just not very well. The shower enclosure felt bulky, the finishes had started to give up, and the room as a whole felt tired and dated.

The Starting Point: A Dated Bathroom

The existing corner enclosure was taking up more visual space than it should, and the darker floor and dated detailing weren’t helping. This is usually where the design work really matters - not just choosing new products but deciding what the room should feel like when you walk into it.

The Transformation: Creating a Modern Walk-In Shower Space

The key decision here was to remove the enclosure completely and replace it with a walk-in shower. We installed the Ascent Linear Drain pre-formed tray by Qualitex, which allowed us to create a clean, level-access shower area. No step, no break in the floor - just a simple, continuous space.

The Iconix wetroom panel by Bathrooms to Love does exactly what it needs to do without getting in the way. It keeps water where it should be, but visually, it almost disappears. That’s what helps the room feel bigger straight away. We paired this with the Aurora round shower valve and kit in chrome - straightforward, well-proportioned, and reliable. Overhead rainfall, handset, nothing overcomplicated.

The recessed niche is one of those things that often gets overlooked early on but makes a difference every single day. No bottles balanced on edges, no clutter on the floor - just a clean, built-in solution that feels like it was always meant to be there.

Tiles That Tie It All Together

For the walls, we used Lirena Cream porcelain tiles in a 300 x 600mm format. They’re quiet, but not flat - just enough warmth in the tone to stop the room feeling cold, and large enough to keep everything looking calm and uncluttered.

On the floor, the Nordic Walnut 20 x 120mm tiles bring in something completely different. A bit of depth, a bit of texture. That contrast is what stops the space from feeling too uniform. It’s a simple combination, but it works because it’s balanced.

Bathroom Design That Starts with the Layout

What makes projects like this work isn’t just the products - it’s the decisions made before anything is ordered. At Tabo, we spend a lot of time getting the layout right early on. Where the shower sits, how the room flows, what you see first when you walk in - those things matter far more than people expect.

We don’t just supply what’s been asked for. We question it, refine it, and often suggest something slightly different that ends up working better long-term. That might be changing from an enclosure to a walk-in shower, adjusting tile sizes so the room feels less busy, or simply removing things that don’t need to be there. It’s not about adding more… it’s about getting it right.

From Design to Installation: How We Deliver

This Wolverton project is a good example of how we work at Tabo - bringing together bathroom design, product supply, and installation so everything lines up properly from the start.

If you’re at the stage where your bathroom isn’t quite working anymore, that’s usually where our design service makes the biggest difference. We’ll look at the layout, talk through what you actually need from the space, and come up with something that feels considered rather than pieced together. From there, we can handle the full supply and fit, so you’re not juggling multiple trades or trying to coordinate everything yourself.

If you’d like to see more of the kind of work we do, you can browse other recent projects on our blog - it’s a good way to get a feel for different styles and what’s possible in similar spaces. You’re also welcome to visit our Milton Keynes showroom, where you can see tiles, fittings, and layouts in person and talk things through with us properly.

Or, if you’d rather start with a quick conversation:

Whether you’ve got a clear idea or you’re starting from scratch, we can help you shape it into something that works - and then build it for you!
