Some bathrooms shout for attention. This one doesn’t need to – it just quietly gets everything right.
This recent bathroom design and installation in Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes was completed by our in-house designers at Tabo and fitted by one of our trusted recommended installers. It’s a great example of how good planning, the right products and a clear design direction can completely change how a space feels and works.
The Original Bathroom: Functional, but Ready for Change
Before the refurbishment, the bathroom was… fine. Perfectly usable, but a little awkward in layout and very much of its time. The enclosed shower felt boxed in, storage was limited, and the overall look was fairly busy, despite being almost entirely white. It did the job, but it wasn’t a room you’d choose to linger in.
Our brief was to create a modern bathroom that felt more spacious, easier to use day-to-day, and a lot easier on the eye – without doing anything shouty or over-complicated.

The New Layout: Reworked for Better Flow and Usability
One of the biggest changes was opening up the shower area into a clean-lined walk-in shower. By using a linear ultra-slim shower tray and a simple wetroom panel, the shower now feels like part of the room rather than a separate cubicle squeezed into the corner.
The result is better flow, clearer sightlines and a layout that just makes sense when you walk in. It’s proof that clever bathroom design isn’t always about adding more – often it’s about taking the right things away.
Large-Format Tiles for a Clean, Modern Finish
The backbone of this design is the Porcelanosa Butan Bone tile range, used on both walls and floors. Large-format tiles were key here – fewer grout lines, less visual clutter, and a much calmer finish overall.
We mixed formats to subtly zone the space:
- Butan Bone 45x120cm on the walls for a sleek, contemporary look
- Butan Bone L 59.6x59.6cm on the floor to keep things balanced
- Block Butan Bone tiles used to add texture without breaking the palette
The soft stone-effect finish works beautifully with natural light during the day, and under artificial lighting in the evening it feels warm rather than flat – no small achievement for a neutral bathroom.

Practical Bathroom Storage Without Visual Clutter
Bathroom storage is one of those things you only notice when it’s done badly. Here, it’s quietly doing its job.
The Lambra wall-hung vanity unit from Bathrooms to Love keeps the floor clear, which helps the room feel more open, while still offering generous drawer space. Paired with the matching tall unit, there’s plenty of storage without turning the bathroom into a wall of furniture.
The matt grey finish adds contrast against the tiles without overpowering them – a nice middle ground between stark white and something too dark.

Bathroom Lighting That’s Both Practical and Atmospheric
Lighting plays a big role in how this bathroom feels. The illuminated mirror provides practical task lighting at the basin, while the LED-lit shower niche adds a soft glow that doubles as mood lighting.
It’s one of those features that looks great, but also happens to be incredibly useful. No need to fumble for shampoo bottles, and no need to add extra shelves that would interrupt the clean lines.

Consistent Finishes for a Cohesive Bathroom Design
Chrome fittings were kept consistent throughout – from the Adria basin mixer to the Tabo SK600 rigid riser shower – giving the room a cohesive, considered finish.
The rimless back-to-wall toilet keeps things neat and easy to clean, while the Hib illuminated ceiling fan quietly does its job in the background, keeping ventilation sorted without drawing attention to itself.
Nothing here is trying to steal the show. Everything just works together.
Bathroom Design Built Around How You Live
This Walnut Tree bathroom wasn’t just about choosing nice tiles and fittings – it was about getting the whole process right from start to finish.
At Tabo, every bathroom starts with a free, no-obligation design service. We begin by getting to know how you want to use the space – what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d like to change. One of our experienced designers will visit your home, take accurate measurements and carry out a full survey. From there, we work with you to create a tailored CAD design, so you can see your new bathroom in 3D on screen and explore different ideas and product choices before anything is ordered.
It means no guesswork, no crossed fingers, and no trying to imagine how things might look once they’re installed. You can see how layouts work, how products sit together, and make changes as many times as you need until it feels right.
Once the design is complete, we’ll provide a clear, itemised quote, which you’re free to amend. There’s no pressure and no obligation – just honest advice and time to decide.

Managing the Full Bathroom Installation from Start to Finish
If you choose to go ahead, we’ll organise the entire project. That includes ordering products, coordinating deliveries, booking trusted tradespeople, and carrying out regular site visits to make sure everything is progressing as it should. Once the installation is complete, we’ll also carry out a final inspection, because details matter – and we care how our work stands up over time.
That level of care is something our customers regularly mention in our 5-star Trustpilot reviews, and it’s why so many people come back to us again – not just for bathrooms, but for kitchen design and installation too.
If you’d like to see more real projects, our blog is full of completed bathrooms and kitchens, showing a range of styles, layouts and budgets. It’s a great place to get ideas and see what’s possible with good design and the right team behind it.
