When a collection stops you in your tracks, you know it is something worth talking about. The Moooi x ABK Nesting Room was one of those moments for us. Our director Genna visited Cersaie 2025 in Bologna last September, the world's leading trade fair for ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings, and this was the collection that caught her eye above everything else at the show. She was so taken with it that she was sending us photos and telling us to get it on our social media before she had even left the hall. That kind of reaction from someone who has been buying tiles for years and has seen more collections than most people have had hot dinners is not something you ignore!
The collection was presented by Moooi founder and creative director Marcel Wanders in a dedicated installation at the ABK stand, and it caused quite a stir across the wider design world too. We are pleased to say it is now available through TABO, and we think it is one of the most exciting ranges we have added to our offering.
The Story Behind the Collection
The Nesting Room draws its creative direction from the idea of stillness, taking inspiration from nature's quietest creatures - the Hypnotic Owl, the Reiki Rhea and the Cloistered Dove - and translating their organic forms and ritual patterns into porcelain surfaces that bring genuine calm to a space. It is, in short, a collection that asks you to slow down. Given how rarely tiles manage to do that, it feels worth paying attention to.

Moooi partnered with ABK, an Italian ceramics manufacturer with over thirty years of expertise in porcelain tile production, for their first ceramic surfaces collection. All tiles are full-body rectified porcelain, made in Italy, with slip resistance ratings suitable for wet areas across most of the range.
The Four Ranges
The collection is made up of four distinct ranges, designed to be used together. The plainer tiles provide a calm foundation while the more decorative pieces add moments of pattern and texture. Think of it as building a scheme in layers, starting quiet and adding character as you go.
Sandy is the backbone of the collection, a refined stone-effect porcelain with a subtle sand-like texture in six colourways from soft Ivory and Powder through to deep Concrete and Volcano. The Reiki Rhea patterned tiles within the Sandy range add a geometric dimension, inspired by the symmetrical patterns the Reiki Rhea bird traces in the Pampas sand each morning. Available in multiple sizes including 120x280cm slabs, with 6mm for walls and 8.5mm for walls and floors.

Egg Scape has more texture and character, with a terrazzo-inspired surface scattered with organic fragments and delicate surface markings. Four plain colourways plus two striking Cloistered Dove variants using ABK's 3DTECH technology, which creates a physical relief surface with a subtle LUX polished finish rather than a printed effect. It is the kind of tile that looks good in a photo and even better on a wall.
Decor Library is where the collection shows its full creative ambition. Four pattern families, Hypnotic Owl, Pavone, Plumage and Passage, all using 3DTECH to create tactile relief surfaces that play with light and shadow. Suitable for walls and floors across residential and commercial settings.

Special Edition panels are large-format 120x280cm statement pieces for walls only. Detailed photorealistic bird illustration panels sit alongside repeating Geometrical variants of each motif in Ivory and Concrete. Used well, a Special Edition panel turns a wall into something closer to art. Used very well, it turns a wall into a conversation that goes on for the entire dinner party.
From Wet Rooms to Living Rooms
The organic, nature-inspired textures of the Nesting Room collection have an inherently spa-like quality, but do not let that limit your thinking. Yes, these tiles are brilliant in wet rooms and bathing spaces, but they are just as much at home in a bedroom, a hallway or a restaurant as they are in a shower enclosure.
EGG SCAPE in Ivory, Powder, Hay & Concrete
For a smaller en-suite or shower room, the Egg Scape tiles are a great starting point. The terrazzo-like surface has enough going on to be interesting without taking over, and the softer colourways like Ivory and Powder keep things feeling airy and calm. Add a Cloistered Dove Powder tile on a feature wall and you have something that feels genuinely special without trying too hard.
For a larger family bathroom or principal wet room, the Sandy Plains range comes into its own. A 120x280cm Plains Terracotta slab on a feature wall behind a freestanding bath is a bold move, and one we would back every time. Pair it with Plains Powder on the floor and the whole scheme comes together in a way that feels warm, considered and timeless. For those who really want to make a statement, the Special Edition panels are in a league of their own. A single Hypnotic Owl panel in a shower enclosure or behind a vanity unit is the kind of thing people remember long after they have left the room.
Away from wet areas, the collection is genuinely at home almost anywhere. The catalogue shows these tiles in bedrooms, lounges and dining rooms, and it makes complete sense when you see it. The Passage tiles are particularly good on kitchen and dining floors, where the organic stone-like texture adds warmth underfoot in a way that a plain porcelain simply cannot. In a hallway, the large-format Sandy slabs set the tone from the moment you walk in, which is never a bad thing. And the Special Edition panels have an obvious home in hotels, spas and restaurants, where one well-chosen wall can do more for an interior than almost anything else.

We think tiles like these deserve to be seen in person. Photographs do a reasonable job of conveying the colours, but the 3DTECH relief surfaces in particular need to be seen and touched to be properly appreciated. The way the Plumage tiles catch the light, or the physical depth of the Cloistered Dove Concrete relief, is something a screen simply cannot replicate. 3DTECH is ABK's proprietary technology for creating genuinely three-dimensional relief surfaces on porcelain tiles. Rather than a printed pattern, 3DTECH produces a physical texture with real depth that you can feel as well as see. Within the Nesting Room collection, 3DTECH is used across the entire Decor Library range, including Hypnotic Owl, Pavone, Plumage and Passage, and on the Cloistered Dove tiles within the Egg Scape range.
Can tiles from different ranges be used together?
Yes, and this is very much how the collection is intended to be used. The Sandy and Egg Scape plain tiles act as a neutral foundation, while the Decor Library and Special Edition pieces add pattern, texture and drama. The colour palette is designed to work cohesively across all four ranges, so Sandy Plains Ivory, Egg Scape Ivory and Pavone Ivory, for example, all sit within the same tonal family and can be layered without clashing.
