We've just finished a beautiful bathroom project in Castlethorpe, Milton Keynes, and it's one we're really proud of. The aim was to create a light, modern space that still felt calm and welcoming - something stylish, but not too trendy, and practical for everyday use.
To bring that to life, we kept the colour palette soft and neutral, adding contrast with black fittings and just the right amount of pattern on the floor tiles. The result is a bathroom that feels fresh and thoughtfully put together, with plenty of attention paid to the small details.
Subway Wall Tiles & Graphic Statement Flooring
We started by tiling the lower half of the walls using Signature bevelled gloss white tiles (10 x 20cm) from Verona. These classic metro-style tiles have a subtle sheen that helps reflect light, giving the whole room a brighter, more open feel. To add contrast and bring out their shape, we used a darker grout, which also ties in nicely with the matt black fittings used throughout.
Underfoot, character and charm shine through with Unicom Starker's Rêverie No 1 (20 x 20cm) patterned floor tiles. Their elegant black-on-white design adds depth and character, bringing a graphic edge that taps into the trend for statement floors. The pattern stands out without clashing, grounded by the classic metro tiles for a fresh, modern take on traditional style.
Sleek Black Touches for a Modern Edge
The shower area features the Classix 2-Door Quadrant in matt black by Bathrooms to Love – a sleek choice that suits modern tastes beautifully. Its curved design makes the most of the space, while the clean black frame adds a subtle, architectural touch. A low-profile shower tray keeps the overall look streamlined and contemporary.
To carry the matt black theme throughout, we chose the Charlotte Basin Mixer Tap and matching Bath Filler from Qualitex. These eye-catching fittings create a bold contrast against the crisp white surfaces and help tie in other dark accents, like the black towel rail. Matt black is one of the most talked‑about finishes of 2025 - stylish, low-maintenance, and a perfect pairing with fresh, white interiors.
Comfort, Storage and Simplicity
On the practical side, we went with the Miami single-ended bath from Bathrooms to Love – a smart pick for smaller bathrooms where every inch counts, but comfort still matters. Its gently curved interior is perfect for a relaxing soak, and the shorter length helps make the most of limited space.
We paired it with the Senna WC, also from Bathrooms to Love, chosen for its smooth, easy-to-clean lines and compact design. For storage, our Lili 600mm floor-standing basin unit in White fits the bill - it offers plenty of room for essentials without feeling bulky. The clean finish keeps the room looking neat, while the soft-close doors add a touch of everyday luxury. Above the basin, we added the Eden mirrored cabinet by Qualitex - a simple, space-saving way to store toiletries and bounce more light around the room.
To finish things off, the Wendover Straight Towel Rail in Matt Anthracite by Eastbrook brings subtle warmth and ties in perfectly with the black fixtures, giving the space a cohesive, modern feel.

This bathroom strikes just the right balance between soft and bold, practical and stylish. It's a great example of how considered design choices – from tile layout to tap finishes – can transform a space without relying on anything overly showy.
Everything in this room was selected not just for its look, but for how well it works together. The result is a bathroom that's a pleasure to use day after day, with details that quietly impress. Most importantly, the homeowners were thrilled with how their bathroom turned out, both in its design and how smoothly the whole process went from start to finish.
