Vinyl makes for a great tile alternative. It's easy to install, maintenance free and suitable for wet areas. Vinyl flooring is available in both wood effect and tile effect designs (Ceramic, Limestone, Slate, Marble, Travertine, Mosaic). When installing vinyl flooring, you must make sure the floor for installation is level, you may need to screed the area first. Once your floor is level, roll out the underlay on top and click the vinyl panels together. It's as simple as that.
Laminate flooring is a quick and easy alternative to Solid wood flooring. Laminate is maintenance free, cost effective and easy to install. Like Vinyl, laminate is installed onto a level floor, with underlay rolled out on top and simply clicked together into place. Laminate flooring is not suitable for wet ares, bathrooms are definitely a no go.
Solid Wood vs Engineered wood. Solid wood, is "solid wood" a single plank of real wood, with no alterations other than being cut to size. Engineered wood, has a solid wood top of about 6mm thick, but the body is made from compressed processed materials. Once laid you would find it hard to tell the difference. Apart from the body of the material, they also carry a few other difference that you should be aware of. Firstly, Cost. Solid wood being a natural product, will cost at least double the price and secondly, the fitting process. Solid wood installation is labour intensive, therefor installation costs will be much higher. Both look fantastic and beat any vinyl or laminate floor. A long lasting floor, with natural beauty.
