Grespania Blue Roma

Blue-grey marble with copper running through it sounds unusual, and it is, in the best possible way. Blue Roma is Grespania's take on a bluish Brazilian stone. Its CarvedTechnology surface gives every vein a gentle relief you can feel as well as see. The finish is a soft matt, the edges are rectified and the porcelain is tough enough for any room in the house.

There are four sizes to choose from, all 10mm thick. The 30 x 60cm makes light work of shower walls and splashbacks, and the 60 x 60cm is a favourite for bathroom floors. The 60 x 120cm and 120 x 120cm cover large floors and feature walls with very few grout lines. Copper or brushed brass fittings pick up the veining, and warm wood stops the blue from feeling chilly.

Blue Roma belongs to Grespania's Imperium family, alongside White Balance, the gold-veined white, and Canela Roma, its warm cinnamon cousin. This one just needs a good fitter.

At 120 x 120cm, Blue Roma comes about as close to quarried stone as porcelain gets. The blue-grey base and copper veining stretch across such a big surface that a floor or wall reads as one continuous piece rather than a grid. Grespania's CarvedTechnology adds a gentle relief that lines up with the printed veins, which matters on tiles this large, where a flat finish would give the game away.

It's made for open-plan living spaces, large kitchen-diners and statement bathrooms. That's the 60 x 120cm Blue Roma, and it's at its best on big surfaces where it can show off. Fitted upright, it adds height to a bathroom. Laid lengthways, it turns a hallway or open-plan kitchen into one long, calm sweep. Blue Roma might change that.

Grespania based the design on a Brazilian stone with a blue-grey base and copper veins, and the result is calm, moody and a little unexpected. It suits a bathroom with dark fittings and plenty of texture, and it's just as striking on a kitchen floor next to white cabinets and warm timber.

This size is printed across 36 different faces, so the veins wander from tile to tile instead of repeating in an obvious pattern. Shower enclosures, bath surrounds and kitchen splashbacks are full of corners and fittings to tile around, and a smaller tile makes those cuts far more forgiving.

The look is a cool blue-grey with fine copper veins, inspired by a bluish stone from Brazil. Grespania's CarvedTechnology gives each tile a gentle relief that follows the veining, so the surface catches the light like real stone rather than a flat print. Stack the tiles vertically for a crisp, modern feel, or lay them in a brick bond. A tip from the trade: with rectangular porcelain, an offset of a third rather than half keeps the finished wall flatter.

Brushed copper or bronze taps pick out the veining beautifully, and a navy or deep green vanity unit makes the blue come alive.
