Hexagon tiles: The new square tiles

Bring hexagonal style to your home with contemporary and snazzy shaped tiles – a stylish alternative to the classic 4-sided square or rectangular tile we all know and recognise.

The hexagonal trend was previously seen mainly in cafes and restaurants, where you could afford to be a little outlandish, but now the six-sided tile is becoming a popular choice for the home.

Use hexagons as a feature wall with a plain floor to create a stunning backdrop or opt for large format hexagons on the floor, imitating the continental look. Alternatively, you could go hexagon-crazy on both the walls and floors to put you in a geometric heaven! The tiles can be ‘toned-down’ with wood or other materials to offer a shapely contrast and open up spaces with an interesting and eye-catching design.

Another great version of the tile is the hexa-cube 3D look where the standard hexagon has a tri-colour design giving the illusion of a 3D cube design. The ‘Tredi Geometric Tile’ by Bayker Italia follows this line of thought.

Six-sided style: Contemporary or Classic?

The initial thought is surely that the hexagonal tile trend is cutting-edge and futuristic, but the look actually originated from way back and is part of Britain’s heritage. Original Style’s Victorian Floors collection showcases many such examples where classic hexagons are used to replicate designs from Victorian and Edwardian times.

The Chelsea and Stratford designs are illustrations of the classic design. The Hexham and Carlisle patterns use the hexagonal shape combined with triangles or diamonds to achieve a pretty star-shaped design.
