The slow demise of Wall Bucket Tile Glue/Adhesive

We have been selling wall tile glue / adhesive for over 20 years, and in that time have witnessed the steady demise of tile adhesive sold in buckets.

The reason has been the change in the nature of tiles fixed to walls. In years past, wall tiles were generally smaller an 8inch or 20cm square tile was often referred to as large.

The average size for a wall tile sold now has increased to 24×40 centimetres or 10×16 inches.

In addition wall tiles, were made from glazed clay, now many wall tiles are made from porcelain. Porcelain wall tiles do not absorb moisture.

Tile adhesive supplied in buckets sets when it is dried out. When porcelain wall tiles are fixed the drying time can last up to 3 months. Therefore as these tiles are bigger and heavier, they have been known to fall off the wall, causing expensive consequences.

The solution is a cement based powder adhesive, which sets chemically after 2-3 hours. Brands such as Weber, Tilemaster, Benfer all produce powdered adhesive which fit all wall tiles irrespective of size and type.
